Stanton Harcourt Item No.: 9 No. of Sheets: 1
Title: Manucript extract from publication: 'The Car. Number 72, October 7, 1903, p.196: 'By the Way: Jottings from the Open Road.'
Content: Concerning a barrow near the Devil's Quoits standing stones. The report claims that it was in the process of being removed by the tenant of the field in which it was situated when a storm broke over the village and the labourers were frightened into ceasing their work, believing it to be 'proof of divine anger'. When the other half of the barrow was removed some years later, no human remains were to be found.
