Title: | Sheet of notes | ||||
Content: | Notes entitled 'Appleton'. Mentions the discovery by four labourers in 1847 of some human skeletons while digging stone at Sand Hills on the western edge of Appleton parish. Lists the items found with the skeletons: four iron socketted spear heads; vessel of earthenware; large round beads, some brown and some brown and blue; bronze bracelets. Each item (except for the bracelets) is described. Manning also notes that the description of the vessel sounds similar to some of the banded vessels of the Late Celtic period, such as those figured in the 'Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries, New Series, Volume XVI, p.259.' |
