| Title: | Manuscript extract from publication: "Flint Implements in Oxfordshire and Thanet' by Colonel Lane Fox in the Journal of the Ethnological Society, New Series, Volume I, p.4-5, December 8, 1868.' | ||||
| Content: | Concerning the examination by the author of the Roman sites on Lord Dillon's property in the neighbourhood of Devil's Pool. Mentions that he found surface pottery and having removed the topsoil, a Roman floor made of concrete mixed with small fragments of broken tile. To the North of the site he found debris of flint manufacture (Flint flakes; Flint balls; Flint cores; A flint fabricator; Two flint scrapers; One leaf shaped flint arrow-head; One barbed flint arrow-head). Manning makes a note beneath the extract to say that Pitt Rivers associated the flint remains with the Roman remains in date. He also makes a note, based on information from Lord Dillon, on the location of the Roman floor. | ||||
