Cuddesdon | Item No.: | 4 | No. of Sheets: | 1 |
| Title: | Letter from Mr Angus Graham of the Scottish Forestry Commission, Edinburgh, to Mr E.T. Leeds. | ||||
| Content: | Concerning the Cuddesdon standing stones. He describes how he discovered and recorded them, sending photographs and information about them to Mr Percy Manning. He also promises to send a map of their location to Leeds. Below the text on the first page is a rough sketch showing the position of the stones in relation to Cuddesdon, Wheatley, the river Thames, Garsington, Denton, Chisel Hampden and a footpath which runs between Denton and a bridge over a river near a mill. He also writes detailed instructions on how to get there. After offering speculation as to the purpose of the stones (possibly for fixing the limits of communal grazing, as in Hampton Bishop, a village in Herefordshire), he finishes the letter by informing Leeds about his new job for the Forestry Commission in Scotland. | ||||
