Dorchester Item No.: 85 No. of Sheets: 1
Title: Manuscript extract from publication: 'Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries, Second Series, Volume II, p.209, 26 February, 1863.'
Content: Mentions a communication from Reverend J.C. Clutterbuck concerning an Anglo-Saxon spear-head of iron. A drawing was originally included in the communication. Explains the exact findspot, a mile North North West of Dorchester on the road leading to Drayton. It was found by grave diggers, close to a skull and with another piece of iron that was not preserved. He compares the spear-head to one found by Mr Latham with a large fibula near Abingdon. Also mentions that a second skull was discovered later.
