| Title: | Two pages extracted from 'Transactions of the Oxford Archicectural and Historical Society, Volume II, p.223-226'. | ||||
| Content: | A paper read by Mr Parker concerning St Mary's Church, Oxford, on the front page of the pamphlet, is followed inside on p.224 by an account of a series of transactions which took place in 1870 in an attempt to preserve the site of the Roman camp at Dorchester from destruction. There is an account of the situation, which was brought to light by Reverend W. C. Macfarlane, that a farmer was in the process of demolishing the site. Then followed a press campaign and letters to halt the demolition. Then a letter and petition were sent to the Home Secretary, who responded. A discussion ensues concerning the general preservation of historical sites and monuments in Great Britain. | ||||
