Title: Note by Mr Percy Manning based on information from Mr Joseph Goodlake of Stanton Harcourt
Content: Concerning Mr Goodlake digging gravel in the field next to the Devil's Quoits. He found 'V' shaped trenches and holes with a black substance in it like burnt wheat. In some of the trenches were pots filled with a powdery substance like burnt bones. He also found skeletons with iron swords, bayonets and bracelets of worked gold. Finally he found a gold ring with one of the skeletons. The ring had a 'diamond' in it and the name of Druce engraved inside it. It was sold to Samuel Druce of Eynsham.
