Content: | Discusses the geographical situation of the Roman station at Alchester, near the Akerman Way Roman road and a mile south of Bicester. Describes some of the features of the site (Brick and stone foundations, paving stones; Akeman Way (Roman road); Vallum and ditch; Artificial hill to West of Alchester called 'Castle hill'; Building foundations found in area at foot of Castle hill; Square stone with cavity out of which came a glass urn) and also mentions objects found at the site (Pieces of pots and vessels - various wares; Coins (Tetricus Jun?); Pieces of brick; Glass urn containing ashes found in cavit cut out of stone; Brass images). |
