| Title: | Manuscript extract from newspaper: 'The Times, September 23, 1893, p.11, Column 5, letter by A.J. Evans.' | ||||
| Content: | Concerning the importation of Greek or Greco-Italian objects (such as the following found at Aylesford, Kent: Two bronzes; Oinochoe; Kind of patella) to Britain during the third century B.C. Announces the donation by Mr W. Cozens to the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, of two vessels: a Roman vase and a Greek black glazed ware cup, both from Dorchester. Discusses the age and type of the cup and goes on to describe the British and Roman settlements at Dorchester. Mentions the ancient British tin money found on the site (see 1648MANN/1/MS/159/49) and argues that the Greek vessel would have been imported there rather than deposited there by a modern collector. | ||||
