Title: Printed pamphlet extracted from 'Archaeological Journal, December 1848'.
Content: Extracted pages are headed 'Berkshire Antiquities'. At the top of the covereing page the following note is written in pencil: 'Archaeological Journal, December 1848. Blewbury (barrows). Long Wittenham (A.S. grave)'. The pamphlet includes two articles. The first concerns the opening of barrows in the parish of Blewbury. Describes the excavations and discusses the findings and history surrounding the graves. The second article is entitled 'Discovery of a Saxon Interment at Long Wittenham'. There are woodcuts of objects (pottery, a dagger, silver studs, shield boss, iron sword, iron spear-head, bronze instrument and hook) and a skeleton included in this article. In the article Reverend J.C. Clutterbuck gives an account of the discovery of the grave by workmen. Describes where the grave was found and what was found in it. Discusses the objects in the grave.
