| Title: | Notes by Mr Percy Manning | ||||
| Content: | Concerning the Roman remains found at Headington. On the first page below the notes a photograph of a bronze spear-head found at Sandhill near Shotover Lodge is adhered. The note claims this is in the possession of Mr Percy Manning. The second page is a note concerning a skeleton dug up close to Wick Farm based on information from Dr Hitchings and Mr Richard Morris of Headington. The third page is a note mentioning kilns found near Harry Bear's Pit Quarry. The fourth and sixth pages detail the Roman remains and flints (Roman pottery; Roman roofing tile; Flint flakes; Flint scrapers; Animal bones; Small brass coin of Constantius II; Flint cores and chips; Flint arrow-heads; Bronze spiked maceheads; Clay tobacco pipes) found in a shallow valley leading to Cowley Marsh. The fifth page is an insert and so interrupts the flow from the fourth to the sixth page. It lists more finds from the Roman remains along the way to Cowley Marsh. The seventh page details more finds and kilns found around the Headington area by various people (Mr James Parker, Reverend E. Marshall). The eighth page concludes that the area must have been the centre of a pottery industry, a brick-making industry and in the 17th century a tobacco pipe making industry. | ||||
