Wallingford | Item No.: | 9 | No. of Sheets: | 1 |
| Title: | Four drawings, one on tracing paper adhered to the sheet and notes. | ||||
| Content: | Three drawings of a socketed knife from different angles. There is a note next to the drawings which mentions that the knife was in the collection of Reverend J.C. Clutterbuck and subsequently in the possession of Admiral W.M. Clutterbuck of Long Wittenham. It was given to the Ashmolean Museum on 18 November 1908. The drawing on the tracing paper is of another socketed knife and was traced from the publication: 'John Evans' Ancient Bronze Implements, p. 206, figure 242'. It is one of a pair of two socketed knives without bosses found in the Thames near Wallingford. The note gives the following publication reference: 'John Evans' Ancient Bronze Implements, p.206, ref. to the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries, First Series, Volume IV, p.303'. There was apparently another similar knife, about 5 3/8 inches long, in the collection of Sir John Evans. | ||||
