| Content: | Photograph of a shell hook from the Greenwell collection in the British Museum. The note beneath the photograph mentions that a similar bone hook was found in Wath, Yorkshire and is published by Mr Thurnam in 'Archaeologia, Volume XLIII, p.441, figure 144'. Two others were found with burnt interments in Yorkshire (published in 'British Barrows, p.352') and three were found in Wiltshire (published in 'Ancient Wiltshire, Volume I, p.200, Plate XXIV'). The note adds that Thurnam (in Archaeologia, Volume XLIII) says that except for the hook found in Wiltshire (made of ivory), they are practically unknown in the South. He mentions one bone hook from Castle Howard found by Canon Greenwell and one from Wath found by Mr W.C. Lukis with a cremation. | ||||
