| Content: | A transcript of a letter published in the book from Mr J. Ward to Horsley. Concerning the Roman altar found at Dorchester. The letter explains that the altar was at the seat of Sir George Oxenden Baronet at Little Wittenham and that Ward was given information about the discovery of the altar by Reverend Thomas Lancaster. There is included a transcript of the inscription on the altar. A note taken from 'Skelton's Oxfordshire, Dorchester Hundred, p.2' claims that the altar was subsequently in the possession of Sir Henry Oxendon of Brome, Kent, in 1823. | ||||
