| Title: | Letter from Mr T.H. Powell to Mr Percy Manning. | ||||
| Content: | Concerning a bronze bowl found near Rumbold's Copse along with many skeletons, a hammerstone, the remains of a small bucket, two iron objects and a quantity of broken pottery. Powell also mentions objects in his possession ( iron axe-head from Benson lock; Ornamental pottery from Mill Lane, Benson; Mammalian remains from chalk rubble found in a pit by Chapel Lane, Benson; Palaeolithic implements from the gravel pit at Rumbold's Grove; Neolithic implements from the Hills between Ewelme and Northstoke). He also notes that gold coins from the collection of Mr W.R. Davies (one of Powell's acquaintances mentioned in the letter along with Mr W. Cunningham) were sold at auction at Sotheby's as coming from Wallingford, when Powell remembers Davies saying that they came from Watlington. | ||||
