Title: Note by Mr Percy Manning and a transcript of a letter from 'H.W.'
Content: Note on Roman pottery discovered in 1817 with reference to three publications (Gentleman's Magazine, October 1817, p.311, Volume LXXXVII; Hussey, p.34; Blomfield's Bicester, Plate 1. p. 19). Note is followed by the transcript of a letter by H.W. (initials only - unsure who this is) containing information on Verulanium and Durolitum. Manning notes that the transcribed part of the letter is preceded in the original by a brief description of the Roman road across Otmoor from Fencot to Beckley. Mentions a stone called 'Jacob's Stone' that the author considers to be of Roman origin near the Roman road. Then goes on to describe two large plots of reed ground called Fencot and Moorcot Fleets which when excavated revealed Roman objects (Several coins; A brass fibula; Two coins (probably of the second Constantine). Some of the potsherds found there were in the possession of Mr Knipe of Charlton.
