Content: | The extract is adhered to lined note paper. Concerning recent discoveries by workmen at a field belonging to Mr Penrose, which were subsequently revealed to be part of the Roman station at Alchester. Includes mention of objects (Bricks and tiles; Tessallae, various colours; 141lbs of lead; Pieces of iron, shapeless and decayed; Piece of brass; Pieces of glass; Ivory pin or stylus; Jaw of human skeleton with teeth; Pieces of timber resembling charcoal) and architectural features ( Bed of ashes mixed with human bones; Paved ground covered with fine gravel; Walls about three feet in height at North and South; Pavement; Floor of cemented brick below pavement; Pilasters). |
