| Content: | The extract includes a photograph of the upper guard of a sword from Wallingford, with the sword shown from both the front and the reverse. Below the photograph is the text of the extract, entitled 'The Antiquary's Note-Book: The Wallingford Sword, be E. Thurlow Leeds, F.S.A'. The article mentions that the sword fom Wallingford is in the Ashmolean Museum and is described in both Archaeologia, Volume I, p.534, and The Berkshire Victoria History, Volume I. It goes on to describe the sword in detail and discuss the symoblism of its decoration. It also discusses possible origins for the sword. A note above the extract on the first page indicates that the sword is number 1890.14 in the Ashmolean Museum Department of Antiquities Accession Registers.
