Title: Manuscript extract from publication: 'Archaeologia, Volume XLII, p.202, Ancient British Barrows, by J. Thurman, 1867-8.'
Content: Concerning the excavation by Sir Henry Dryden of the standing stone (Hoar Stone) at Enstone. No interment was found, but the bones of animals and some worn fragments of coarse pottery. Two further references below: 'Gentleman's Magazine, 1824, Volume XLIV, p.125, description and woodcut by Edward Rudge' and 'Lurkis' Bircham Barrows, 1843, p.12.' This extract is in disagreement with the one in1648MANN/1/MS/165/11, which claims that human bones were found beneath the stone.
