Wood Eaton Item No.: 48 No. of Sheets: 1
Title: Note by Mr Percy Manning based on information from Elsfied and publications: 'Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries, First Series, Volume II, p.68' and 'Proceedings of the Oxford Architectural and Historical Society, Volume III, p.174 and 223.'
Content: Concerning bones, ashes and two small bronze busts found at Drun's Hill, Wood Eaton, in a stone quarry. One bust was in the possession of Reverend Gordon of Elsfield. It is possible that the other was mentioned in the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries, First Series, Volume II, p.68 as being a head of Antinous exhibited to the Society by Mr C. Roach Smith, although a further note, dated 1936, written by Mr Donald Harden, adds that there is no evidence for this. A further note towards the foot of the page, on a strip of paper adhered to the note paper, mentions that Dr A.J. Evans had in his possession a small hoard of bronze coins found at Middle Hill, Wood Eaton, around 1874.
