Content: Pamphlet includes an article: 'Alchester: A paper read by the Reverend Jenner Marshall', pp.123-131, and on pages 133 - 141, a further note including illustrations and remarks on Alchester contributed by Reverend Walter L. Brown in response and opposition to a paper given by Reverend Jennings. Includes mention of the objects found there (Bricks; Tiles; 28 human skeletons and other miscellaneous human bone; Tessellae; Oblong seal of the Dean of Burcester; Large hollow stone containing a green glass urn full of ashes; Roman coins; Roman relics; Broken pottery; Terracotta female head; Figure like a corbel-head carved in stone or lignite; spear-head; Four horse shoes; A small female head cast in plaster; Crumbled mortar, plaster and ashes) and the various architectural remains (Bank and ditch surrounding the camp; Defence tower; Roman roads; Akeman street; Building foundations; Castle Hill - full of Roman bricks, stones and foundations, possibly a Praetorium or Temple?; Roman pavement; Doorway; Roman hypocaust; Remains of villas and houses). There are four folded A4 plates at the back of the journal: 1) A plan of Alchester (Copied from a lithographed sketch of the ground, printed in 1842 by the Ashmolean Society) 2) A diagram of horse-shoes and a spear and its broken handle found in a brook South West of Alchester and a small terracotta head, found in Alchester itself 3) A diagram of a stone lion.
